Remember when summer meant two and a half months of no homework, sleeping in late, and hanging out with friends? Well, being an adult has, unfortunately, put an end to that!
We rarely make time to celebrate and enjoy summer like we use to. But all that is changing this year because I am teaming up with Dr Pepper and challenging you to throw a summer soiree for your friends! Don’t worry, I know you’re already stressing about the cost and what to serve and blah blah ….chillax! I’ve got your back!
Here are 5 tips for throwing a fun and affordable pool party for grown-ups!
1. Keep the Guest List Small
This is a shindig for your personal VIPs. Don’t feel pressured to invite everyone and their mom! You’ll have the most fun with your close friends and, to be honest, your wallet will also appreciate it. A small guest list also means less clean up after the party!
2. Budget Friendly Drinks & Food
I know we all love Pinterest (gulity!) but we tend to get caught up in the idea that everything we do has to be “pinterest-worthy”. We feel the need to serve up beautifully plated 5-course meals and custom crafted cocktails in order to impress our guests.
Umm… guys, this is a pool party and a pool party should be simple and easy! Just head to Walmart to grab your drink and snacks supplies and stay on budget.
All you really need are some ice cold sodas (Dr Pepper is a group favorite – side note: when I met my husband he was OBSESSED with it! And now every time I drink it, it reminds me of when we first met…swoon), chips, and when everyone gets hungry you can all pitch in for a pizza. Embrace your inner teenager!
3. Encourage Pool Fun
Before I throw anyone else under the bus, I’ll confess that it’s sometimes hard to convince me to get in the pool.
First there’s the whole, “How do I look in this bathing suit?!” conversation that happens in my head and then, I get a little nervous about how cold the water might be. I’m basically searching for an excuse to be a boring adult sitting on the sidelines!
Do you remember when we were kids and we just jumped in without a second thought? Didn’t it feel amazing to be that carefree? Well just because we’re older, it doesn’t mean we can’t have that same carefree attitude!
Help motivate your guests to hop in by adding fun inflatables to the pool and of course, by hopping in first! If you’re in need of inflatables, you’ll be thrilled to know that there’s a DrPepper + Walmart promo happening right now! #PickYourPepper #Walmart
When you buy any Dr Pepper 6/15-8/15 this summer, you can upload your receipt at http://bit.ly/2pts8Qo to get the little unicorn can holder I have and/or other prizes like:
- Spend $5, get a unicorn beverage holder inflatable
- Spend $10, get a Walmart E Gift Card worth $5
- Spend $20, get a 6 pack can/bottle holder with ice pack
- Spend $40, get a Dr Pepper bottle shaped pool float
Nothing ruins a party faster than awkward silences!
Before the party starts, be sure to put an upbeat playlist together. You can even have friends take turns playing their favorite music and songs once they arrive. Here’s a link to one of my personal playlists to get you going: Niki’s Music
Whatever you do, don’t let the party go silent!
5. Make Time for All Your Guests
Another perk to having a small guest list is the amount of time you’ll be able to spend catching up with everyone.
As the pool party host, be sure to make the rounds and chat with everyone who decided to join the fun. As an adult, it’s not always easy to find time to go out and reconnect with your peers so be sure to let your friends know that you appreciate them!
Thank you for stopping by today! I hope this post encourages you to throw your own fun pool party this year! Remember, it doesn’t have to cost a fortune (Walmart will seriously help your budget)! All you need is a few close friends, some cold Dr Peppers, and a great playlist!
Have a great summer!
