We’re are nearing the Day of the Dead celebration (October 31st -November 2nd)!
Growing up, Day of the Dead was a celebration I was only semi-familiar with but after losing my grandpa a few years ago, I found myself striving to learn and understand more about this special cultural tradition, as a way to reconnect with my memories of him.
If you are unfamiliar with this tradition, Day of the Dead is a family-centric celebration dedicated to remembering and honoring loved ones that have passed away. Food plays a big role during Day of the Dead, as it does during many special occasions in the Hispanic culture.
To celebrate Day of the Dead this year, I’m teaming up with a brand that has always had a special connection to Hispanic households, Nestlé!
When brainstorming my recipe, I knew I wanted to create something that felt like family, warm and comforting. I also wanted the dish to be reminiscent of the tastes and smells of my grandparents’ house. It was also important to stay on budget so I planned a trip to Walmart!
I decided that breading pudding, with a very special Nestlé twist, would be the perfect recipe for celebrating Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) this year!
Not only is this recipe packed with flavor and comforting warmth, it’s also easy to make in large batches so you can share it with friends and family as you spend time together remembering your loved ones.
Below is the list of all of the ingredients you’ll need, but the most important is NESTLÉ® ABUELITA®! Abuelita’s hot chocolate is what makes this bread pudding stand out from every other bread pudding you have ever tasted! Abuelita’s hot chocolate is also a family favorite (we all grew up drinking it!), so I knew everyone would love this dessert.
INGREDIENTS: ( You can find everything you need at Walmart!)
- 1 French Bread Loaf
- NESTLÉ® ABUELITA® Drink Tablets ( You can find this on the Hispanic food aisle in Walmart)
- 6 Large Eggs
- 4 Tablespoons Butter, Melted
- 6 Eggs, Beaten
- 4 Cups of Milk
- 1 1/4 Cup White Sugar
- 1 Teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
- 1 1/2 Teaspoons Vanilla Extract
- Condensed Milk *Optional
- Preheat Oven to 350 degrees
- Tear 3/4 of your bread loaf into small pieces and place in baking pan
- Heat your milk on medium and add 1 Abuelita tablet. Stir occasionally until dissolved. Turn off heat and allow milk to cool.
- Combine eggs, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and milk (once it’s cooled) in a medium mixing bowl.
- Pour mixture over bread and us a fork to press down on bread to ensure that it’s completely covered.
- Bake for 60 minutes
Allow the bread pudding to cool for about 15 minutes before serving. You can add a dollop of condensed milk on top for a little extra sweetness!
Family is very important to me and I am looking forward to spending some time this year reminiscing about my grandpa. I’m sure he would be happy to see that I’m remembering him while enjoying something tasty. He always liked to make sure everyone had a full plate in front of them.
I invite you to join me and Nestlé in celebrating Day of the Dead this year. Gather your family, cook up a batch of Abuelita bread pudding, and share stories and memories.
In the comments below, let me know how you plan to celebrate Day of the Dead!
