It would be amazing to climb a mountain and get your zen on, but you don’t need to go to such extremes to deal with the stress of modern day living!
Our phones keep us connected to our world 24/7. We are constantly devouring what others are sharing and comparing our lives to their seemingly perfect Instagram feeds. We sit in front of computer screens all day only to find ourselves staring at our phone all night. We don’t stop. We’re always on.
This is Cultural Stress and it often causes us to lead more isolated, sedentary lives. Which, as you can imagine, isn’t good for us! We are social creatures that need to connect, in-person with our friends and family.
Murad Skincare recently launched a campaign and website, EyesUp.com, to encourage people to step away from their digital devices, take a break from work, and to experience the power of human connection.
One of the ways I love to connect with my family is in the kitchen! Cooking a meal is a great way to spend time together for a couple of reasons. First, your hands will be busy chopping, mixing, and stirring so you won’t be tempted to reach for your phone. And if you make homemade sopes like we did, your hands will be coated in masa and you’ll definitely not want to touch any digital devices!
The second wonderful perk about cooking a meal together is that you’ll also be able to sit down and enjoy it together once your done. This turns the simple act of eating, into an opportunity to de-stress, laugh, and interact with the people you love.
I highly recommend visiting EyesUp.com for more articles on cultural stress and how to deal with it. You can also take the pledge on the site and share your reason for going EyesUP(I went EyesUp for family)!
I hope you’ll take some time today, for your health and well-being, to disconnect from the digital world and rediscover the people and places in the real one. Remember, nothing can top an in-person, face to face interaction!
